Healthy and Happy Children Must Start With The Community
Just like communities, brains are built upon a strong foundation. For a child, this process begins before birth and continues over the first few years of life. At birth a child has almost all her neurons (brain cells). It is the experiences and interactions the child has that determine if the cells will become wired or connected to each other providing a clear flow of information. Positive interactions stimulate the connection process between neurons. Lack of stimulation especially in a toxic situation (abuse, poverty, neglect) will cause the wiring or connections to be damaged or to not happen at all. It is the responsibility of the community to ensure that all children are happy and healthy. If this happens the future of the child and community will be bright.
